Timely's Long-Lost Friends?

There's has been some chatter over the years about the reputed -- but non-existent -- team-up of Namora, Sun Girl and Golden Girl in Marvel Mystery Comics #88 (October 1948), but no one ever seems to talk about the friendship between Madeline "Miss America" Joyce and Patsy Walker.

Don't believe me? Check out this two-page spread from Miss America Magazine #5 (February 1945). Also present are Patsy's pals Hedy Wolfe and Nancy Brown, along with two unnamed girls (presumably Maddy's chums).

I can't help but wonder what might have brought this group together, other than the fact that Miss America and Patsy Walker were the featured comics in Miss America Magazine at the time and things rarely made sense in the Golden Age.

Patsy is still active in modern comics as the fun-loving but feisty Hellcat, despite a prolonged trip to Hell (whole 'nother story for a whole 'nother day). But poor Maddy is a prime candidate to replace Bucky Barnes in the time-worn phrase "No one stays dead in comics except..." (assuming Bucky's not working on reclaiming that dubious honour).
