One-Hit Wonder Women: The Original Golden Girl
Two years before Captain America's gal pal Betsy Ross tried her hand at super-heroing as the Golden Girl, another young lady used the name in Spark Publications' Golden Lad #5 (June 1946).
Peggy Shane is a sweet high school student who accidentally gains super powers from a shard of the golden heart that gives Golden Lad his powers. The two Goldens don't meet, although they go to the same school in their civilian identities.
Peggy is quick to use her new powers -- including flight and apparent invulnerability and strength -- for good, taking down a trio of thieves disguised as police officers.
Golden Girl was scheduled to appear in Golden Lad #6, which was never published.
